DB9F (Female) Connector:

Nine (9) small sockets arranged in two rows
(One row of 5, the other 4).

Two small screws for secure attachment to
complementary plug on host computer

The outer shell of the metal shroud at the
front of the DB9F is slightly tapered
on each end. The size of the shell is
approximately 5/8 inch wide (at the
widest point of the taper) x 5/16 inch
high.

Common usage in "PC" type computers:
 |
RS232 serial devices (serial mouse, external
modem, serial pole display,
"intelligent" cash drawers, mag stripe
reader with RS232 interface).

The "PC" standard for RS232 serial devices
uses the DB9F connector attached to the
cable; the DB9M (male) mating connector
is part of the computer.
